PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Antibiotic ointment treats cuts and wounds. Active ingredient: Nitrofurazone. Water-Soluble.
INGREDIENTS:
.02% Nitrofurazone, in a water soluble base of Polyethylene Glycols
Nitrofurazone is a very commonly used antibacterial preparation for the treatment of wounds of the horse. It comes in liquid, powder or ointment form. Its intended use is for the treatment and control of infections in surface wounds and abrasions.
Ointments with nitrofurazone in them are often used in "sweat wraps". This type of wrap is applied to affected legs in an effort to reduce swelling. The ointment may be used alone or used with corticosteroids to increase the anti-inflammatory effect. To make a "sweat wrap" apply the ointment, wrap the limb in plastic wrap and cover with a bandage. Leave it for at least twenty-four hours. Remember the effects you see may be only due to the fact that the ointment occludes the skin.
